The European Commission has today adopted the Communication Towards Interoperability for European Public Services. In response, Association for Competitive Technology president offered his support for the measure:
“The notion of “open specifications” included in the European Interoperability Framework allows for open source and proprietary software to compete on a level playing field. Governments will be able to select the software they use based on performance and cost effectiveness. This is particularly important at a time where public authorities need the highest quality services at the best possible costs. Innovative SMEs have a crucial role to play in developing tailored, practical, modern software solutions that eliminate barriers to e-government and deliver efficient cross borders services.”
