LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM – Association for Competitive Technology (ACT) comments on the impact for startups and small businesses in yesterday’s announcement from the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) on business software and cloud services.

‘The decision by CMA not to designate Microsoft and AWS cloud services as having strategic market status and instead focus on a collaborative process with both to address the concerns of consumers and small businesses is a win for SMEs’, said Stephen Tulip, UK Country Manager for Association for Competitive Technology (ACT).

‘We will continue to urge the CMA NOT to adopt any remedies which will require cloud service providers to compromise on the security, cost efficiency, quality, and user experience of their offerings.

‘Cloud computing services have become an ideal way to deliver solutions and enterprise networks for companies throughout the world. The growth and development of the cloud ecosystem enabled a new era of innovation and accessibility and provided a competitive edge for startups and small and medium-sized enterprises to challenge larger companies.

‘ACT and our members stand ready to continue working with the CMA, providing technical expertise and real-world experience of the benefits and challenges of the cloud and business software services available to ensure the UK’s vibrant startup and small tech businesses can thrive’.
