WASHINGTON – ACT | The App Association continues to support the AI Pause included in the budget reconciliation bill for its benefits to small technology companies.

“The updated provision is an example of well-balanced policy that gives small business innovators clarity and confidence to make big, multi-year bets on new tech. It also gives policymakers the space to address bad actors who are just using AI as a new vector to continue harassing or misleading consumers” said Morgan Reed, president of ACT | The App Association. “Little tech is nimbler and faster than big tech, developing and deploying AI to create a new generation of products and services for consumers. The provision gives our most innovative sector the room to continue leading the world.”

We support the updated provision’s:

  • Clearer focus on state laws regulating AI technology itself while maintaining state laws of general applicability that cover conduct involving AI
  • Role as a foundation for Congress to adopt a federal framework expressing U.S. AI priorities in every state and on the global stage
  • Inclusion of additional funding for state AI budgets
