Today, ACT | The App Association released a statement from president Morgan Reed on today’s House Energy and Commerce Committee markup of the American Data Privacy and Protection Act (H.R. 8152).
“We are glad to see that Democratic and Republican leaders of the House Energy & Commerce Committee have come together to approve the American Data Privacy and Protection Act. While we are still reviewing the text, we are encouraged by the bill’s preemption of state laws, flexibility for small businesses to comply and compete, and strong data security provisions.
“For small app companies like our members, data security and privacy are the foundation of their prosperity. A single set of requirements for the entire country would also better position smaller companies to earn consumer trust, putting them on more equal footing with their larger rivals that can handle compliance with multiple state regimes. Data privacy supports a trust framework for consumers to share their information with businesses. That trusted exchange of information between a customer and a business creates avenues to deliver a solution, create an experience, provide care, and transform a life. The time is now to choose privacy.”
