We’re halfway through CES 2015 and seeing a lot of traffic in the home automation area – connected devices are dramatically changing how we interact with our immediate environment. Here are our top five picks for the home automation platform that will enter the market in 2015:

  • Notifi from Chamberlain is an LED light bulb for your front porch that’s also a doorbell and security camera. It’s powered by the porch light socket so there’s no need for new wiring. It includes a motion sensor for video and connects through wifi to provide push notifications and remote monitoring. Notifi will reach the market in Q3.
  • The Alba bulb from Stack Lighting is attracting a lot of attention for being the smartest bulb. Collecting data from motion and ambient light sensors, its machine learning algorithm can automatically dim, brighten, or adjust color temperature based on usage patterns.
  • Insteon App and Insteon Hub bring the home automation device maker’s switches, outlets, thermostats and light bulbs into HomeKit. The app will also work with other HomeKit-enabled devices from different manufacturers. The Insteon Hub is available for pre-order now.
  • Schlage’s Sense smart lock is a bluetooth-enabled keyless lock that gives owners the ability to control the lock and manage up to 30 access codes at the same time. The app allows users to check lock status and battery life, and review activity logs – even if residents don’t already have a home automation system in place. Availability and pricing will come later in 2015.
  • Incipio®’s DIRECT Wireless Smart Outlet gives users the ability to manage what gets powered while at home or on-the-go. The outlet gadget also integrates with Siri, allowing for hands-free control over those things you’re not completely sure you unplugged before leaving the house.

All of these new products will feature HomeKit integration so they can be controlled using Siri and work in tandem with a wide range of other home automation devices.
