Morgan Reed has approached his first term as Chair of the mHIMSS Legal and Policy Task Force knowing that hard work needed to be done to help mobile health innovation thrive. He spent the past year bringing together government leaders and the health IT industry in pursuit of regulatory agreement to provide consumers access to innovative mobile health services.
Reed testified before Congress and spoke to audiences across the country about the improvements in health outcomes resulting from the first wave of mobile medical apps. He has also led the 5,000 member companies of the app trade association, ACT, to provide guidance for innovators and entrepreneurs about the growing opportunities and responsibilities in the mobile health marketplace.
These opportunities were greatly accelerated when the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued its final guidance for health app regulation earlier this year. The mobile health industry had long advocated for a regulatory environment with clear guidelines and room to innovate. The FDA did just that by giving app makers the clarity and certainty they needed to kickstart new projects and attract investors. An explosive period of growth and innovation is now underway, with life-changing products regularly coming to market.
Reed will be talking about this remarkable year of success at this week’s mHealth Summit. At the annual mobile heath conference in Washington, Reed will speak or moderate at four separate events. His team and member companies from ACT will be on hand to share their stories of success and illuminate the road forward for new innovation.
This path forward is outlined in the mHIMSS Roadmap. This initiative offers resources and guidance to providers, caregivers, and patients about mobile medical solutions that are improving patient outcomes. The mHIMSS Roadmap is a bridge for all sectors of the industry to understand how mobile health innovation will lead to more successful patient outcomes.
