On 4 December 2024, ACT | The App Association members took their innovative products to the UK Houses of Parliament for our inaugural UK Member Drop-In Day. This event marked a significant step in amplifying our members’ voices, ensuring that their businesses and innovations are at the forefront of UK policymakers’ discussions. Below is a recap of our exciting day of small business activation and advocacy.
Drop-In Day Highlights
Over the course of two hours, we packed as many of our members as possible into our officially assigned meeting room in Portcullis House, the Parliament building where most MPs have their offices. We were joined by more than 15 MPs, Peers, and staffers, all keen to learn about and engage with the technologies our members are developing and to hear directly from micro and small businesses about what they need from policy and regulation to succeed. The drop-in session was kindly hosted by Steve Race MP.
The App Association team also had a not-so-secret agenda… getting to play with the tech ourselves!
With so much tech regulation in the works, it’s crucial for policymakers to hear directly from small businesses, who often don’t have the same voice as their larger tech counterparts. This drop-in session was important, not only because it gave our members the chance to showcase their products but also because it highlighted the wide range of societal issues and industries that App Association members are tackling through innovation. Our day of advocacy served as a powerful reminder that many companies in the tech ecosystem are small, and their needs must be addressed as part of the broader tech regulation conversation.
