With the risk of privacy breaches increasing daily, researchers continue to find that the dangers of such compromises disproportionately burden disenfranchised communities. In order to protect the most at-risk populations, lawmakers around the globe must tackle consumer protection issues one by one, especially the widespread efforts directed at privacy, content moderation, and online safety. During this discussion, we’re diving into how developers are harnessing existing digital protections, like encryption, to build secure products and how various pieces of legislation in the EU, UK, United States, and around the globe can help or hinder the future safety of the app economy.
ACT | The App Association’s Amplify Diverse Talent Working Group is excited to present a unique roundtable discussion highlighting the intersection of encryption, equity, and policy, exploring why policymakers around the world should have a measured and mindful approach to consumer protection, privacy, and security issues. Speakers included Graham Dufault, general counsel at the App Association, Denise Tayloe, CEO & co-founder of PRIVO, and Heather E. West, senior director for cybersecurity and privacy services at Venable.
