National polling indicates that Americans are concerned about what pending legislation could do to the safety and security of trusted marketplaces

(WASHINGTON, DC) Monday, July 18 –Today, ACT | The App Association and Morning Consult released national polling indicating that Americans have increased concerns around their personal privacy and security should trusted platforms be compromised if the Open App Markets Act (S. 2710) and the American Innovation and Choice Online Act (S. 2992) become law.

Polling captured 2,000 adults’ (18+) opinions on the consumer experience with downloading apps, possible changes to trusted platforms, and congressional legislative priorities.

Highlights from the poll include:

More than half of Americans want Congress to prioritize their privacy and security concerns on the legislative agenda.

 

A majority of consumers place great importance on security and safety when downloading an app—security, functionality, and protections provided by an official app store.

 

In the major app story current security format, Americans are very concerned about the security of their personal information when downloading apps.

Should S. 2710 and S. 2992 pass, consumer concerns spike over the security and privacy of personal data.
