After months of quarantining at home, WodPod wants to help users get active! WodPod is a fitness platform that lets users choose from workout programs designed by fitness trainers around the world. Through the WodPod app, workout programs that were independently developed are available to a global audience.

“Think of it as a marketplace for fitness programs,” says co-founder Mattia Carluccio. The trainers upload their virtual workouts in the app, where customers can then access them. WodPod does not offer subscriptions, instead, users only pay once for each workout. To purchase a new training program, users simply pay for it, and they can use it endlessly.

The two founders, Mattia Carluccio and Hugo Perez, came up with the idea for WodPod about four years ago. They have gone from developing the first version of the app as a hobby in their spare time to both co-founders working on the app full-time to make WodPod a success. Recently, they hit an exciting start-up milestone when Mattia and Hugo brought on another developer, growing their team to three!

The founders are keen to help trainers scale their business – which is particularly welcome after more than a year of closed gyms. “Right now, the app has about 20 training programs we designed together with a specialist. The idea is to open it up to trainers to add content in the coming months,” explains Mattia. Based out of Torino, Italy, and Tenerife, Spain, the European startup found inspiration in the best-rated fitness apps in the world. “We wanted to create the same cool experience for our users – but with original content provided by external professionals”.

“We really want to help fitness trainers, so they can get their fair share,” Mattia notes. About 30 per cent of our revenues will go straight back to the instructors. Mentioning Apple’s recent launch of the Small Business Program, Mattia welcomed the reduction of the fees for in-app purchase from 30 per cent to 15 per cent for small and medium-sized companies. “As a small business, we understand that the App Store will charge us 15 per cent. That is their business model, just like we have ours,” he added.

WodPod’s innovative app gives trainers the tools to create their own virtual workouts and enables them to share their programs with a worldwide audience. The founders’ goal is to become a fitness platform by creating a global online ecosystem for fitness where professionals and consumers can easily meet and interact.

WodPod aims to make getting fit easy and wants to help users stay motivated. It’s a great example of how apps can enhance our lives and of the opportunities the app economy offers to innovative small businesses, no matter where they are based in the world. The team at WodPod is excited to take the app live in the next couple of months, and the beta version of WodPod is already available on the Apple App Store or at WodPod.com. We are proud to have WodPod as a member, and we look forward to the official launch of the app!
