You may have been tied to your desk when the first game kicked off this afternoon, but the 2014 World Cup has begun and fans around the globe will tune in to cheer on their favorite teams for the next month. Even if you can’t be happily glued to a couch or sitting at a pub, all you need is a mobile device and a few apps to follow the action live.

For games shown on ESPN, you’ll need to download the Watch ESPN app whereas games shown on ABC require the Watch ABC app. Some restrictions do apply based on your cable provider or location, so be sure to check those out before planning your remote viewing experience. Both of these apps allow you to view a live stream of your favorite matches. A third option comes with the ESPN Radio app, which will also offer all of the games live.

Additional remote viewing options include TiVo Roamio and Slingbox. With a TiVo Roamio Plus or Pro, you can stream live or recorded games if you have a mobile device running on iOS 5.1 or later and the TiVo app. Likewise, Slingbox allows you to control and watch what’s on your TV at home from a desktop or mobile device using an Internet connection or the SlingPlayer app.

A full schedule of the 2014 World Cup matches can be found on FIFA’s website. Enjoy catching all of the action – from anywhere!
