As they say… And now for something a little different.

We talk a lot in these parts about innovation.  We even talk a little bit about healthcare IT.  And sometimes we just talk about technological things that we think are awesome.

This story sort of fits all of those categories for me. Elephants are my almost-favorite animal, second only to dogs, and I have a special appreciation for organizations that work to help them and their dwindling population. Like the group that helped this fine animal. Homegirl was just walking along while at work in Thailand when she stepped on a landmine that blew off her front leg. Part of the leg had to be amputated and now she sports a spiffy, "state-of-the-art" prosthetic leg that was produced by a foundation that also makes inexpensive but workable prosthetics for humans.(Be sure to check out the pictures of Motola with her new contraption.)

Maybe it's not today's most groundbreaking news, and maybe it's not life-changing (for you), and maybe it's not the single most important work being done right now. But I hope you'll agree that it should be put in the "generally pretty awesome" category.
