Statement from ACT | The App Association on the UK CMA’s Investigations of the Apple and Google Mobile Ecosystems

London, UK – The United Kingdom Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) today announced their intention to investigate Apple’s and Google’s mobile ecosystem services under the new Digital Markets Competition Regime powers. Stephen Tulip, UK country manager for the App Association, an international trade association for small and medium-sized technology companies and app developers, released the following statement:

‘App developers are essential to the mobile ecosystem. Many of our members rely on app stores to reach a global audience and protect user security and privacy, ensuring apps can be installed with confidence. Consumer trust in apps is vital for startups and smaller developers to compete with established brands. The privacy and security of UK citizens cannot be sacrificed. We urge the CMA to consider the views of the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) —many of them our members—who fuel growth and innovation in the tech sector and the wider economy’.
