ACT | The App Association Statement on Newly Announced Trade Agreements with Asian Nations

WASHINGTON, D.C. – ACT | The App Association is encouraged to see the inclusion of digital trade priorities in new trade agreement frameworks the Administration announced with Cambodia, Japan, Korea, Malayasia, Thailand, and Vietnam. Though the terms of each have yet to be finalized, these frameworks include important commitments that will support small businesses competition and innovation across the digital economy, including refraining from imposing digital services taxes, protecting source code, restricting cross-border data flows, and prohibiting unfair treatment of digital services.

“Our members in Asia, the United States, and around the globe need to seamlessly reach customers anywhere in the world,” said Morgan Reed, president of ACT | The App Association. “We are encouraged to see a push for digital trade priorities in the recently announced frameworks with Cambodia, Japan, Korea, Malayasia, Thailand, and Vietnam. We hope to see this momentum continue as the formal trade agreements are finalized and implemented, and are committed to working with the Administration and U.S. Trade Representative to empower small business digital economy growth and job creation.”
