A Missed Opportunity as Administration Reveals Further Details of U.S. – EU Trade Deal

“Today’s announcement doesn’t include much that we already didn’t know and leaves out the biggest non-tariff trade barriers impacting small tech companies in the United States and in Europe” said Morgan Reed, president of ACT | The App Association. “We welcome the additional commitment from the EU to continue supporting a World Trade Organization (WTO) moratorium on customs duties on electronic commerce, and their restatement of previous commitments to not adopt or maintain network usage fees or impose customs duties on electronic transmissions. However, it is disappointing that the announced further details of the U.S.-EU trade deal do not include any action to reduce EU regulatory burdens, like the Digital Markets Act (DMA) or the AI Act. Significant non-tariff trade barriers like these slow global digital trade and innovation, disproportionately harming small technology companies at the heart of the digital economy.”
