Pakistan blocks access to YouTube
AFP reveals that “Pakistan has ordered all Internet service providers to block the YouTube website for containing ‘blasphemous’ content and material considered offensive to Islam. […] An inter-ministerial committee has decided to block YouTube because it contained ‘blasphemous content, videos and documents,’ a government official told AFP. ‘The site will remain blocked till further orders,’ he said. Other officials said the site had been blocked because it contained controversial sketches of the Prophet Mohammed which were republished by Danish newspapers [...]
EU and U.S. to crack down on counterfeiting of computer components
According to the New York Times, “EU and U.S. senior officials said on Friday they would crack down on counterfeiting of computer components after they seized over 360,000 fake items in just two weeks in a joint operation at the end of last year. Microsoft’s Interoperability Principles: A Challenge to IBM and ECIS
Earlier today, Microsoft made an announcement so big it nearly blew up their conference call system. Microsoft executives Steve Ballmer, Ray Ozzie, Bob Muglia, and Brad Smith participated in a press conference call where they announced a new set of Interoperability Principles. While the specifics will take a while to fully digest, it seems clear that this announcement has serious implications for the European Committee on Interoperable Systems (ECIS), the chief complainer about Microsoft's current level of "openness" and "interoperability."
