ISO Standard is Good Start for Cloud Security
The transition to cloud computing is a modern reality for businesses of all sizes. Cloud computing gives companies an efficient and inexpensive way to provide services and run their businesses. It has enabled companies to cut IT costs by over 35 percent, while helping improve IT staff productivity, simplify and standardize infrastructure, launch revenue-generating services more quickly, and improve resource utilization. The portability and cost benefits are obvious, and have been the key driver – but today’s businesses are asking [...]
Black Friday sales putting iOS app makers in the black
We’ve long compared the iOS and Android platforms and their benefits to app makers. While Android accounts for four in five global smartphone sales, Apple’s OS continues to prove most profitable for app companies – even with a much smaller market share. Earlier this year, Fortune’s Philip Elmer-DeWitt reported that Apple’s users spend four times as much as Google’s. That magic number was once again seen in last week’s Black Friday sales, where iOS users drove four times as much sales revenue as Android users. [...]
Forget your Black Friday blues, give an app instead
[DISCLAIMER: I’ve never partaken in the frenzy that is Black Friday, so it’s possible there’s something magical I’m missing…but I’ll take my chances.] For many across the United States, Friday marks the quintessential day for deal hunting and holiday shopping. Often a week or two filled with industry panels, work events, and happy hours can culminate in the above scene. And while rummaging through card piles can be nostalgic if 52-card pickup was a childhood favorite, most of the time it’s more of a headache than a gratifying feat to find [...]
My Life in Apps: The Sports Fan
It's little surprise that our culture's appetite for connectivity would be a perfect match for our obsession with sports. Smartphones are the fastest adopted technology in human history, bringing the internet to wherever people are. And wherever people are, there are bound to be sports fans. I am one of those sports fans for whom apps have become indispensable. Apps have helped strengthen our engagement with professional leagues, national teams, local clubs, fan organizations, alma maters, television networks, brands, products, [...]
So you voted, now what?
The polls are soon to close! Today millions of Americans have gone to their local recreation centers, churches, and school gymnasiums to cast votes that determine the trajectory of our country’s political system – ah, democracy! After many of us have done our civic duty, we’ll flip on the tube, follow on our smartphones, and sit in front of computer screens to check out the latest updates and predictions of the results. Thankfully, an ACT member has devised innovative election [...]
