Statement from ACT | The App Association on the Introduction of the Promoting US leadership in Standards Act in the House

Today, Reps. Jay Obernolte (R-CA), Scott Franklin (R-GA), Doris Matsui (D-CA) and Ted Lieu (D-CA) introduced the House version of the Promoting US Leadership in Standards Act, a companion to the Senate bill introduced by Senators Warner (D-VA) and Blackburn (R-TN) and passed out of the Senate Commerce Committee in July. 

“The App Association applauds the introduction today in the House of Representatives of the Promoting United States Leadership in Standards Act,” said Morgan Reed, President of the App Association. “It is critical that the U.S. and American companies continue to lead the world in the development and use of artificial intelligence (AI). Nurturing open and global participation in standardization activities, especially when hosted in the United States, can address shared technical challenges while advancing American technology leadership. This bipartisan legislation represents a decisive step in the right direction. By instructing the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to support the industry-led development of standards by specifically allocating funding without unnecessarily expanding its mandate, the legislation better positions standards development organizations and U.S. standards participants for success. ”
