Ahead of Wednesday’s House Judiciary hearing entitled, “Artificial Intelligence: Examining Trends in Innovation and Competition,” ACT | The App Association shared this  statement of support ahead of the hearing:

Small business developers are on the frontlines of AI advancement—building tools that improve how we deliver healthcare, power local economies, and solve real-world problems in communities across the country. We thank and commend Subcommittee Chairman Fitzgerald, Ranking Member Nadler, and members of the Subcommittee for their leadership in tackling the complex and fast-moving issues surrounding AI and market competition.

“Small businesses are on the frontlines of AI innovation—and they need a regulatory environment that fuels growth, not one that creates unnecessary and business-killing roadblocks,” said Morgan Reed, President of ACT | The App Association. “If U.S. policymakers take a European approach to AI, we’ll get European results: lower investment, fewer startups, and innovation at the speed of government. That’s not the future our members are working to build. All these companies ask for is a fair shot to grow and scale without being drowned in red tape.”

The United States has led the world in innovation because we’ve nurtured a pro-growth legal framework that encourages risk-taking, rewards ingenuity, and creates space for small players to challenge the status quo. Overextending antitrust enforcement or adopting premature, sweeping regulatory regimes risks locking out the very innovators policymakers are trying to support.

With the right environment, American startups can — and will — innovate, grow, and reaffirm the innovative prowess of the United States. We thank the Subcommittee for focusing on this critical issue and urge continued support for policies that foster competition through opportunity—not constraint.
