Supporting the Senate’s Call for Clarity on Medical App Regulation

Today six Senators issued a public request for clarity on FDA regulation of mobile medical apps. Earlier this year, ACT toured the country speaking to app makers and venture capitalists about opportunities in the mHealth field. I am pleased to see the Senate is seeking further clarity on the regulation of mobile medical apps. It is important that government and industry become better informed about health apps that are improving patient outcomes. We are already seeing remarkable results in chronic disease care through the use of smartphones and tablets. The regulatory environment will be a critical factor in determining how patients may best use mobile devices to monitor their health and communicate with healthcare providers.
