ACT | The App Association thanks FTC Commissioner Brill for service

Yesterday, the Federal Trade Commission announced that Commissioner Julie Brill will resign next week to join Hogan Lovells as a partner and co-director of its privacy and cybersecurity practice. In response to this news, Morgan Reed, executive director of ACT | The App Association released the following statement:

Commissioner Brill has been a longtime advocate for privacy and consumer rights, and ACT | The App Association thanks her for six years of service at the FTC. Despite our occasional differences, I deeply respect Commissioner Brill and am thankful for the candid conversations and lively debates we have had during her tenure. As she moves on to the next stage of her career, I wish her the best, and look forward to continuing our friendship.

There are now two vacancies at our country’s chief privacy regulator, offering a chance for Congress and the administration to work together to fill the roles. With so many pressing issues, including questions around cross-atlantic information flow and government access to data, it’s critical that the president and leaders in Congress identify people that will bring balance and an open mind to the commission.
